FECAFOOT’s resolutions adopted on 27 August 2022 declared null and void
Morgan Sports Law successfully represents the Professional Football League of Cameroon (“LFPC”) and other Cameroonian football officials against the Cameroon Football Federation (“FECAFOOT”).
During its General Assembly on 27 August 2022, FECAFOOT adopted various resolutions (the “Resolutions”), which included: (1) suspending Mr François Kouedem (President of Cameroon’s West Regional Football League (“LRFO”)); (2) prolonging the mandate of its President, Mr Samuel Eto’o; (3) revoking Mr Guibaï Gatama’s membership of the FECAFOOT Executive Committee; and (4) confirming the (alleged) dissolution of the LFPC. The full list of resolutions can be found here.
On 21 November 2022, the LFPC, Mr Gatama, Mr Kouedem and representatives of Cameroon’s North Regional Football League (“LRFN”) Mr Aboubakar Alim Konate, Mr Issa Bassoro, Mr Inoussa Mohamadou and Mr Mohamadou Djouldé (the “Appellants”) lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (“CAS”) against the Resolutions.
On 15 August 2023, the CAS found that the General Assembly on 27 August 2022 had not been properly convened and declared the Resolutions null and void.
The Appellants were represented by Partner William Sternheimer, assisted by Trainee Solicitor Ellen Kerr.
William Sternheimer further assisted the Cameroonian football club Panthère Sportive de Ndé Nzuimanto in having the elections of members of FECAFOOT’s judicial committees declared null and void by the CAS on 15 August 2023.
