İlkay Durmuş wins at CAS

Morgan Sports Law has successfully represented German-Turkish professional football player, İlkay Durmuş, before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (the “CAS”).

In July 2023, Mr Durmuş terminated his contract with his former club, Lechia Gdańsk, due to unpaid salaries. 

In August 2023, the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber ordered Lechia Gdańsk to pay Mr Durmuş his outstanding salaries, as well as compensation for breach of contract (the “FIFA DRC Decision”).

In October 2023, Lechia Gdańsk appealed the FIFA DRC Decision before the CAS. 

Following a hearing in June 2024, the CAS found in Mr Durmuş’ favour and ordered Lechia Gdańsk to pay: (i) the outstanding salaries owed to Mr Durmuş; (ii) compensation to Mr Durmuş for breach of contract; (iii) a contribution towards Mr Durmuş’ legal fees and expenses; and (iv) the full costs of the arbitration. 

Mr Durmuş was represented in the CAS proceedings by the Football Disputes team at Morgan Sports Law, including William Sternheimer, Sam Kasoulis and Marko Lavs.
